I bet you’re scratching your head in wonderment as to why I would have a banjo player, correction, an 8-String-Banjo player in-studio during my jazz and international music show Voices From The Community.
Have you ever been to New Orleans? More specifically, Preservation Hall?
It is well known to be common for banjo players to start out playing other instruments like guitar and even bass, and Brad Bailey falls into that category of jazz musicians. And get this, Brad was a finalist this year in Lee Ritenour’s international guitar competition, and has performed with The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Ringling Bros Circus, and Korean pop-star Kim Jaejoong.
So let’s get back to this banjo player who will be in the Charlotte Community Radio station studio on Wednesday, September 21st.
Brad Bailey plays an 8-string-banjo and bass at the same time on one instrument—blending elements of Bluegrass, Funk, and Jazz. He put out a debut album called 8anjo in 2014, and he currently leads workshops to help musicians make musical and personal breakthroughs by applying Yoga, Qigong, Acupressure and more to their practicing and performing.
You know that I don’t place my show into a box, and I love exploring the boundaries of music making so be sure to listen to the show starting at 2pm and stick around for my interview with this Charlotte-based, banjo playing, jazz musician.
Voices From The Community, hosted by Bridget B., airs Monday through Friday from 2pm to 5pm via CharlotteCommunityRadio.org or CLTCRadio.org. Feel free to ask a question of our hosts and/or guests while you listen via Mixlr.com/CLTCRadio.
