Maybe you have seen Mike Watson as the TEDx Charlotte emcee or speaking at Pecha Kucha Charlotte or maybe you are a student in one of his classes at the Art Institute of Charlotte. However, you have encountered him you know that Mike is a delight to be around and collaborate with. I first met Mike when we were both asked to participate in a dialogue session where he was facilitating a discussion around harmonious conversations and I was the entertainment :).  If one were to ask Mike, his thoughts on how creativity can be achieved in all facets of life, I believe he would point you towards his Heart-Centric philosophy.

Mike states that his purpose is to reshape leadership so as to reshape lives for the better; this passion serves a purpose greater than himself which is a key tenet of his Heart-Centric Leadership model.Watson’s Heart-Centric leadership and awareness provides excitement and energy around connecting seemingly unconnected thoughts, acts or events into positive moments that push boundaries, realize possibilities, and explore new opportunities. Seeing these patterns in the chaos is a result of focused self-awareness, and the willingness to be quiet, so as to listen and to be assertive in order to take purposeful action. The Heart-Centric philosophy in leadership and life, supports the idea that happiness occurs when individuals perform personally expressive behaviors during meaningful goal pursuits.

Join me as I chat with Mike about creativity, finding/living our purpose and connecting it all back to our HEARTS or as Mike would and did say in a tweet on 12/15/2016, “Work Heart’er and Be Smarter” we will be Heart-Centric with Mike Watson on Tea Time with Tenya LIVE on Charlotte Community Radio at 6:30pm on December 20th.

Tea Time Nov 22nd: Author, Amy Clipston: From A Childhood Fascination To Living Her Dream

Photo of Amy ClipstonAmy Clipston has been fascinated with the Amish for as long as she can remember. As a child she visited Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with her father, a German immigrant, who told her that the Amish spoke the same dialect of German as their relatives. Those visits to Amish Country really made an impression on Amy the child, because Amy the adult has crafted a successful career as an author of Amish fiction.

With more than 20 Amish titles to her name, including her popular Kauffman Bakery Series, Clipston has become somewhat of a cultural expert—and she often works with an Amish friend to ensure accuracy in her manuscripts. Her stories marry her love of romance writing with her interest in Amish culture.

A native of New Jersey, Amy has been writing for as long as she can remember. Clipston often jokes that her fiction writing “career” began in elementary school as she wrote and shared silly stories with a close friend. However, throughout school, she only considered writing as a hobby and never dreamt of being an author.

One day while surfing the Internet for a professional editor’s group, Amy accidentally found a local fiction writing group, Chesapeake Romance Writers. After attending their meeting, Amy soon realized that she wanted to be an author, and it soon became a dream to see her name on the cover of her very own novel.

Join us at 6:30pm on November 22nd for another LIVE, Charlotte Community RadioTea Time show as we sip Moroccan Mint Green Tea and find out more about Amy’s story. If we’re lucky, she may read an excerpt from her upcoming book, “The Cherished Quilt” scheduled for release on November 29th.

Tea Time Nov 8th: Meet a Gentleman of Many Trades, Daniel Heath

How does one blend music composition, a juris doctorate, music education, and a certificate in theology and the arts. Well, look to your left, because my guest Daniel Heath has blended them all.

I was introduced to Daniel a few years ago by mutual friends John and Mary Gaertner who suggested that he was someone I should definitely meet, so I did. Daniel serves as the Director of Contemporary Worship and Arts at Covenant Presbyterian Church here in Charlotte, North Carolina. Contemporary is not just a catch phrase, Daniel has woven songs from The Wiz to songs written by Curtis Mayfield into Covenants 9:30am and 11:00am Contemporary Service.

While attending Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, Daniel held the coveted position as the Martin Luther King, Jr., International Chapel Choir Director (for weekend service). Daniel has taught music in some fashion at all levels of the education spectrum, from the Charlotte School System, to South Piedmont Community College, as well as a college prep music course at Davidson College (through the Love and Learning Program).

Now, Church 21 is at the top of Daniel’s to do list. This new venture offers a 21st century view on worship and seeks to help churches identity their purpose, preserving traditions without worshiping them, and welcoming a more diverse congregation. We will find out just how Daniel handles it all on my next LIVE Charlotte Community Radio show, Tea Time, at 6:30pm on November 8th.

Tea Time Oct 25th: From Rock Stage To High Fashion, Hope Nicholls

Photo of Hope NichollsI am super excited to have Hope Nicholls, fashion trendsetter and owner of the iconic Boris + Natasha boutique on Thomas Avenue, as my very first Tea Time with Tenya talk show. The first show goes LIVE on Charlotte Community Radio at 6:30pm, Tuesday, October 25th.

I met Hope at her boutique several years ago while exploring the shops along the Central Avenue corridor, and Hope’s story is much bigger and edgier than the fashions you will find in her shop.

Fetchin Bones, Sugarsmack, Snagglepuss and now, It Snakes, are all bands that Hope leads (or has led) with her powerhouse vocals that match her alternative rocking style. If you haven’t met her, just think Janis Joplin meets Cyndi Lauper (that’s eye and ear candy rolled into one) and you will get a picture of Hope Nicholls.

During my inaugural show, we’ll be sipping tea while chatting about an array of topics from the arts and pop-culture to travel and style, and of course, we’ll learn more about Hope. So boil the water, brew the tea, and get ready to listen.
