Russia is the biggest country by land area in the world, stretching from the Sea of Japan all the way to the Baltic and the border with Finland. It straddles two continents and is home to a diverse multiethnic population. Russia’s history traditionally starts in the year 862 AD. We’re going to take a whirlwind tour of Russia’s history and learn more about why Russia has been back in the headlines lately.

Introducing Southern Wonder with Allison Braden

Photo of Allison BradenAllison Braden began her career in curiosity early. As a child, she insisted on knowing what was beyond the universe, and she hasn’t stopped wondering since. Until scientists figure that out, she’s focused on curiosities closer to home, especially literature, culture, geography, and history. On Southern Wonder, she’ll learn about these topics and more with Charlotteans who actually know what they’re talking about.

Allison applied to Georgia Tech with the intention of studying computer science, but she couldn’t resist the pull of the humanities and switched majors before even arriving on campus. She graduated with a degree in international affairs and Spanish. Since then, she’s traveled to Venezuela to observe an election, lived in northern Bangladesh, and traipsed around Mongolia, Siberia, and the American South. She is still figuring out how to get paid to travel and ask questions.
