If you know Jason Jet or if you just see him walk in a room, one can see the glow of creativity surrounding him. Who could have foreseen that this Iceland native, now Charlotte, North Carolina resident would become a musical force whose unique talent would breathe fresh air into the regional and national music scene.

Pick a category in the music world and Jason can check them all: musician, producer, songwriter, vocal and performance coach. But Charlotte is not the only place that Jet has and/or is making a mark. From his college days at Full Sail University,  where he honed his producing skills, to performing with the Florida band Bop Gun band, Jason knows what it takes to be successful on stage and in the production studio.

After a stint on the New York music scene and working with major labels, Jason is back in the Queen City. His sophomore project debuted in 2016. According to Jet, “The Great Escape” is a project centered around the concept of self-realization. Jason is also finding his passion around helping other artists and creating a music community here in Charlotte. Every Monday night from 8:00pm to 10:00pm, Jet can be found leading his Vocal Power class where he teaches performers how to incorporate vocal and performance techniques into their creative tool belts.

Join us March 14th on the next  Tea Time with Tenya as I chat with Jason about all things music and maybe get an on air Vocal Power session LIVE on Charlotte Community Radio.  You can catch Jason in action at UNCC for a free noon concert at the After Hours Lounge (3.14.2017) and then listen to his LIVE chat on Tea Time from 6:30pm to 7:30pm (est).

Tea Time Jan 31st: Carmella Jarvi, Artist – Entrepreneur

Photo of Carmella Jarvi

When you first meet Carmella Jarvi, fire and water may not be the first things that come to mind. But once you get to know her and the passion she has for her artwork, fire and water will seem a very normal but very interesting conversation to have with her. I first met Carmella at an artist session sponsored by the Arts and Science Council and was captivated by her engaging manner and excitement about all things creative.

Carmella, an alumni of the McColl Center for Arts + Innovation in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont, her artwork has evolved from women in water paintings to abstract explorations of water through warm glass – her primary focus since a trip in 2011 to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Artist is not the only title Carmella wears, since 2006 this artist – entrepreneur has perfected her “business of art” work by offering lectures, training, and business assessments to artists who are interested in learning how to sustain themselves. From gallery curator to arts blogger, Carmella is completely immersed as an artist. You can see her artwork currently on display at The Gallery at Clearwater Artist Studios in Concord, North Carolina.

Join us LIVE on Charlotte Community Radio at 6:30pm, January 31st for another Tea Time with Tenya, as we chat with Carmella about her artwork and how she has blended the ‘business of art’, into her creative life.

Tea Time Dec 20th: Mike Watson, Charlotte’s Heart-Centric Change Agent

Photo of Mike Watson

Maybe you have seen Mike Watson as the TEDx Charlotte emcee or speaking at Pecha Kucha Charlotte or maybe you are a student in one of his classes at the Art Institute of Charlotte. However, you have encountered him you know that Mike is a delight to be around and collaborate with. I first met Mike when we were both asked to participate in a dialogue session where he was facilitating a discussion around harmonious conversations and I was the entertainment :).  If one were to ask Mike, his thoughts on how creativity can be achieved in all facets of life, I believe he would point you towards his Heart-Centric philosophy.

Mike states that his purpose is to reshape leadership so as to reshape lives for the better; this passion serves a purpose greater than himself which is a key tenet of his Heart-Centric Leadership model.Watson’s Heart-Centric leadership and awareness provides excitement and energy around connecting seemingly unconnected thoughts, acts or events into positive moments that push boundaries, realize possibilities, and explore new opportunities. Seeing these patterns in the chaos is a result of focused self-awareness, and the willingness to be quiet, so as to listen and to be assertive in order to take purposeful action. The Heart-Centric philosophy in leadership and life, supports the idea that happiness occurs when individuals perform personally expressive behaviors during meaningful goal pursuits.

Join me as I chat with Mike about creativity, finding/living our purpose and connecting it all back to our HEARTS or as Mike would and did say in a tweet on 12/15/2016, “Work Heart’er and Be Smarter” we will be Heart-Centric with Mike Watson on Tea Time with Tenya LIVE on Charlotte Community Radio at 6:30pm on December 20th.
