The holiday season is fast approaching and like most years top of mind for me has been family dynamics, gift giving, over indulging in red wine, and George Bailey. I want to make my approach different this year. I want to focus on the idea that the holidays can be more meaningful if I stopped thinking about the superficial aspects and look to serve others in the community.
While researching different ways to contribute, I came across Share Charlotte. The organization encourages members of our community to donate whatever they can to whoever they want. I was drawn to this non-profit as soon as I understood their message. It’s not about a specific charity, but rather reminding us all to do what we can because it’s important to give back to your community.
On Monday, November 14th I’ll be in-studio for another Not Your Boyfriend’s Radio Hour show airing LIVE on Charlotte Community Radio at 7:00pm. Addie Rising, content manager of Share Charlotte, will be joining me to discuss the #GivingTuesdayCLT campaign that kicks off Tuesday, November 15th at Unknown Brewing Company. The two-week long campaign benefits 173 local charities, ones that help the sick, homeless, animals, and our environment. In 2015, Share Charlotte raised 4.2 million dollars and this year they hope to exceed that.
My second guest is Melonee Hostetler of Carolina Breast Friends and the Executive Director of The Pink House. Carolina Breast Friends is one of the local charities that is a part of #GivingTuesdayCLT.
Not Your Boyfriend’s Radio Hour, hosted by Amelia Coughlin, airs every other Monday from 7:00pm to 8:00pm via CharlotteCommunityRadio.org, CLTCRadio.org or Mixlr.com/CLTCRadio where you can chat with our hosts.
