During the 7pm hour of JAZZ LIVES!!! with CurtJazz on Thursday, June 23rd, we will feature two young musicians who are an integral part of the vibrant Carolinas jazz scene – Tim Scott, Jr. and Harvey Cummings II.
Charlotte native Harvey Cummings II is an award winning saxophonist, pianist, and songwriter. His unique sound blends jazz, hip-hop, neo-soul, and R&B music to create an incredible listening experience. He is the keyboardist for the popular band Sol Fusion and the pianist and saxophonist for his band The Harvey Cummings Project, whose forthcoming new release Chicken Day is causing a great deal of buzz in the Queen City and beyond.
Since graduating from North Carolina Central University with two musical degrees, Harvey’s music has been featured on Cartoon Network’s “The Boondocks” and commercials for Allen Edmonds Shoes. He has also been featured on recordings by King Mez, Carlitta Durand, J Gunn, and more.
Drummer/percussionist Tim Scott, Jr. was born and raised in Buffalo, New York in a musical household. Surrounded by some of the biggest names on the Gospel scene, Tim always had an ear for music. After relocating to Charlotte, NC in 1999, Tim attended Northwest School of the Arts where he began studying jazz. He then went on to receive a scholarship to North Carolina Central University where he majored in Jazz Studies with Artists in Residence, Branford Marsalis, and Joey Calderazzo, before receiving another scholarship, from Berklee College of Music.
After spending three years touring the country with Grammy-nominated hip hop/alternative group, the Foreign Exchange, Tim has returned to Charlotte, where his singular sound drives several local groups, including Machine Gun Preacher, The Harvey Cummings Project, and Fat Snacks.
