One thing I mentioned when I started Homegrown was that I wanted to appeal to not only artists but to the people doing great things in the Charlotte community as well. On the June 5th show, Ms. Tashina Figueroa, founder of Covered Girls, joins me in the Charlotte Community Radio Station studio! The organization really does some great work when it comes to mentoring young girls and at-risk teenagers, and we’ll go into a little bit more detail with the programs that they offer to girls ages 12 to 18.
Covered Girls operates under the umbrella of Covered, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit designed to decrease the number of at-risk teen girls exposed to dating violence, teen pregnancy, and sexual exploitation. The organization offers a mentoring dynamic program to fit the needs of at-risk teens transitioning from middle to high school or high school to adulthood. Our participants officially become Covered Girls, trendsetters that display the image of true beauty, purposed driven lifestyles, and powerful decision-making skills that other teen girls can mimic.
Our Covered Girls use Covered, Inc.’s platform to become leaders within their communities, philanthropist and youth advocates encouraging other teen girls to GET COVERED! It does take a village to raise our children, especially our young women, and I commend what the ladies of Covered Girls are doing.
Homegrown family, let’s get familiar with Covered Girls on June 6th and make our young ladies aware of this organization!
