Join me on June 20th for another quality “Homegrown” radio show!!!! I’m personally excited because I’m all about bringing in eclectic, talented, musical guests to the studio, and with that being said, coming live from the Charlotte Community Radio station, I’m welcoming Mr. Mayhue Bostic to the show!
Mr. Bostic was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He’s the son of a Baptist minister (and part-time jazz flutist) who started playing music in the third-grade learning flute, trumpet, piano, and several other instruments. At 12-years of age, Mayhue discovered the guitar. Immediately drawn to its expressive sound and influenced by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck and Danny Gatton, the guitar quickly became his passion.
As a teen, Mayhue developed diverse musical tastes from rock to soul, to blues and beyond, which allowed him to cross over many genres that kept him in high demand as a player. During this time, Mayhue’s true heart was drawn to the creative freedom of jazz/funk/fusion music pioneered by greats like Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, George Benson, Pat Martino, Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, and Frank Gambale, all of whom have influenced Mayhue’s playing style greatly.
During the show, we’ll talk about the monthly Jazz Jam sessions he hosted from June – December at Cube NoDa. We’ll also discuss the current state of traditional jazz while playing some great music in between. Who knows, Mayhue might even play us a few tunes while he’s in-studio so keep it locked on Homegrown June 20th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and let’s get Familiar with guitarist, Mayhue Bostic!
