Not Your Boyfriend’s Radio Hour May 16th: Singer-Songwriter, Arsena Schroeder

Photo of Arsena Schroeder for her album Anchor Down BelowArsena Schroeder recently returned to Charlotte from a short tour playing her most recent work, the EP “Anchor Down Below”. Though the new project’s sound is slightly different from what Arsena fans have come accustomed to, it is being received very well. The record was co-written with industry veteran Tera Jackson.

Her earlier recordings, and the set I saw at Pizza Peel a few weeks ago, could be described as a more folk/singer-songwriter vibe than the R&B and hip-hop influenced “Anchor Down Below”. Her EP’s namesake song has a beautiful and creative accompanying music videoArsena’s music and persona cannot be confined by stereotypes and I think this is what makes her, and her music wonderfully unique. She is influenced by many different types of music but namely: folk, gospel, and alternative.

Arsena was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but moved to Charlotte when she was five and considers it home. She got, what some may consider, a late start by entering into music at nineteen but this is not reflected in her diversified and polished discography or accomplishments. She released her debut EP “Abundantly” in 2013 and her debut full-length album “For My Artist Child” in 2014. Arsena has performed for Michael Jordan at The Time Warner Cable Arena, became a 2015 Arts & Science Council Grant Recipient and is on the Breedlove Guitars Artist Roster.

I am very excited to have such a talented and multifaceted young woman on the show, airing LIVE Monday, May 16th from 7:00pm to 8:00pm on Charlotte Community Radio. This will be Not Your Boyfriend’s Radio Hour’s first in-studio performance and I am over the moon excited so please tune-in.
