**February 29th interview postponed until March 7th.**
Tania Kelly is originally from Louisburg, North Carolina. She moved to Charlotte after studying theater at North Carolina Central University. In recent years, Tania Kelly was voted Best Local Actress by Creative Loafing. Charlotte Magazine named her the Best Up and Coming Actress in 2013 and Best Actress in 2015. Awards aside, Tania’s charisma and talent are undeniable upon meeting her. She has performed in several productions with Three Bone Theatre, Stephen Seay Productions and Donna Scott Productions.
Tania is also part of a sketch comedy group called Robot Johnson, a show that runs about an hour and consists of comedy skits, songs, and parodies (think Saturday Night Live in real life). All content is written by members who get together regularly to bounce around ideas and rehearse. The troop performs locally but has traveled to venues and comedy festivals around the Southeast. Robot Johnson most recently performed at the NC Comedy Arts Festival in Chapel Hill and was Charlotte Magazine’s Best Sketch Comedy Group in 2010, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Their next performance is scheduled for March 4th at the Rabbit Hole, a new live music spot that opened up in the Plaza Midwood area.
Charlotte is in an era of development and as a result there have been several closings of local music and art venues. It’s encouraging to see new places like the Rabbit Hole emerging and having success, and hopefully reassuring locals that they will have a place to showcase their creative talents. If you like to laugh, I think you will enjoy my chat with Tania Kelly this Monday, February 29th during my show Not Your boyfriend’s Radio Hour on Charlotte Community Radio.
Not Your Boyfriend’s Radio Hour, with Amelia Coughlin, airs every other Monday from 7:00pm to 8:00pm via CharlotteCommunity Radio.org, CLTCRadio.org OR Mixlr.com/CLTCRadio where you can chat with our hosts.
