The Big City meets the Queen City! Victoria Rosa (center photo), (a.k.a. Vicky Ro) and her family moved from New York City to Charlotte, NC when she was in 7th grade. Although she will always be a New Yorker at heart, she is happy to call Charlotte her home.
Victoria graduated from Appalachian State University with a BS in Communications focusing on Broadcasting and Electronic Media. While attending Appalachian, she became actively involved in her school’s radio station, 90.5 WASU; it was then, that she fell in love with radio.
After spending almost two years working as a television news reporter, Victoria is making her way back into the world of radio. She plans on helping Charlotte Community Radio in anyway possible; from co-hosting Fair Game to getting out and interacting with the community. “I always knew I’d be back behind a mic, I’m just glad it’s with Charlotte Community Radio! They are truly trying to make a difference in the community.”
Shanel Parsons (left photo), known as NellyP, is originally from Jacksonville, NC. Her family relocated to Charlotte when she was 10 years old after her father served his time in the Marines. She is full of personality and has a beautiful spirit.
Shanel is currently a student at ECPI University where she is earning an AS in Network Security. She also has a BS in Computer Information Systems from North Carolina Central University. Going back for another degree was something Shanel felt was a necessity in making her more marketable in her field. In the meantime, Fair Game is something that she has taken great interest in. “We all met at Vance High School and I don’t think either of us could have said that we would be in the position we are in now, producing a radio show!!! This is great!!” Although it’s off path with her original career field, she feels that it’s a step out of her comfort zone. She’s very optimistic of the limitless possibilities for the show and is looking forward to its success.
Pierrea Javon (right photo) is a native Charlottean and graduate of NC State University where she studied communications with a concentration in Public Relations. She has a background in dance and competed in numerous competitions at regional, national and collegiate levels. On and off stage, she has always known she had a big personality that she wanted to share. “Fair Game is that opportunity to be myself, share my opinion and hopefully inspire others.”
“Since graduation I have been looking for a chance to gain valuable experience in communications and I can’t say how excited I am to have that opportunity with Charlotte Community Radio.” She thinks listeners will like Fair Game because “…we are all so different, but we all get along. Fair Game to me is smart, funny, informative girl talk… And there just happens to be a mic!”
About Fair Game
It started as a normal conversation among friends and turned into something much bigger. The show is unique because there are 3 different perspectives with a common goal; to give individual opinions and have fun! Nelly P, Pierrea Javon and Vicky Ro hope listeners are drawn to their exciting personalities and can relate to their “try new things” attitude. The best things in life come from stepping outside your comfort zone and Fair Game is a chance to step out in a big way! “Life may not always be fair, but we are.”
